Energy storage

In any efficient electricity system the sum of power production and the sum of all loads must be precisely balanced at all times. Currently this balance is achieved by rapidly adjusting reserve capacity.

Many countries use hydropower reservoirs to store surplus energy and to compensate for peaks in demand. Other technologies, such as compressed air energy storage (CAES), could also play a prominent role in the futher deployment of renewable electricity systems.
