Tomorrow's projects |
Offshore Enhanced Oil or Gas RecoverySeveral projects have been identified for offshore enhanced oil recovery in combination with carbon dioxide storage. Examples are the Miller Field (with BP) in Scotland and the Draugen/Heidrun fields (Shell/Statoil) in Norway. NewCableNew HVAC or HVDC long-distance cable technology, capable of adopting various offshore electricity resources, will further improve the controllability, reliability and efficiency of the offshore energy system. The proposal of Airtricity and ABB for a creating a huge European offshore Supergrid, proposes to use state of the art HVDC technology to harvest the vast wind resources of the seas. |
NewWaveSeveral new innovative concepts for wave and tidal energy converters are currently being developed and demonstrated. By making use of existing offshore infrastructures the large scale deployment of these technologies can be facilitated.

Electricity storageElectricity storage concepts such as improved compressed air energy storage (CAES) or pumped storage can help to control the offshore resource at large deployment rates. Wind/AquacultureCombination of aquaculture (mussels, seaweed, fisheries) with offshore energy projects can increase the economical feasibility of projects.![]() |
